Most AI writing tools charge a monthly fee, store your text on their servers, and hand you back words that sound like they were written by a committee. TidyText does the opposite. Paste your text. Get back something better — in your voice, in any language, at a cost that rounds to nothing. No account. No subscription. No black box.
Most translation tools convert words. TidyText preserves meaning.
Every major translation tool — Google Translate, DeepL, ChatGPT — has the same tell. The grammar is correct. The words are right. But something is off. A native speaker reads it and knows immediately: a machine wrote this.
TidyText is built differently. Instead of word-for-word conversion, it translates for meaning, rhythm, and register. The same care a professional human translator gives to idiom, tone, and cultural weight — applied automatically, to whatever you paste in.
"The output shouldn't look translated. It should look written."
That's the standard TidyText holds itself to. Here's what that looks like in practice.
The difference is the prompt philosophy: preserve tone, honour idiom, match the register of the original. Not just what was said — how it would actually be said by someone who grew up speaking that language.
TidyText supports 44 languages — no signup, no account. From the world's most-spoken — Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish — to languages most tools barely support, like Yoruba, Amharic, and Swahili. Every language gets the same treatment: no word-for-word, always idiomatic.
Most AI editors have one mode: maximum intervention. They rewrite your sentences, smooth out your style, and hand back something that sounds like everyone else. Your voice disappears in the process.
TidyText takes a lighter hand. The philosophy is: fix what's broken, preserve what's yours. Unclear sentence? Fixed. Awkward grammar? Corrected. Redundant word? Gone. But the structure you chose, the rhythm you built, the personality in your prose — untouched.
It also auto-detects your language. TidyText is a multilingual AI writing tool — write in French, German, Portuguese, or any of the 44 supported languages, and it edits in that language, applying the conventions of that language, not a translated version of English grammar rules.
Your API key. Your text. Your choice of AI model. Nothing passes through us — not even once.
When you run TidyText, your text goes from your browser directly to whichever AI provider you've chosen — Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Groq, Mistral, DeepSeek, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. There is no TidyText server in the middle. There is no logging. There is no database.
Your API key is stored only in your browser's local storage, encoded, and never transmitted anywhere except the provider you chose. When you close the tab, the session ends. Nothing persists on our end because there is no "our end".
For anyone writing about clients, confidential matters, or anything they'd rather not hand to a SaaS company's training pipeline — this is the point. You are not the product. You are the user.
Grammarly Premium costs £16 a month. ChatGPT Plus costs £16 a month. Quillbot Premium costs £16 a month. If you want to improve text online with no subscription, you're currently overpaying for a task that costs pennies per run at the API level.
| Scenario | TidyText + Gemini | Grammarly / ChatGPT Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly fee | £0 | £16+/month |
| Cost per improvement | ~£0.001 | Bundled in subscription |
| 100 runs / month | ~£0.07 | £16 |
| 500 runs / month | ~£0.35 | £16 |
| Annual cost | Under £5 | ~£192 |
The default provider is Gemini 2.5 Flash — one of the most capable and cheapest models available. A typical improvement request uses roughly 400 input tokens and 300 output tokens. At current API rates, that's about £0.001 per run.
Gemini also includes a free tier of 1,500 requests per day via Google AI Studio. For most users, the effective monthly cost is £0.00.
You would need to run over 22,000 improvements in a single month to spend the equivalent of one ChatGPT Plus subscription.

TidyText AI is an independent project by Maruf — not VC-backed, not growth-at-all-costs. Built because a writing tool that respected API spend and privacy simply didn't exist.
